Rainy Saturday in Renfrewshire.

Another slightly better night’s sleep – I don’t know if it is the tablets or just that I am coming out of this bout of insomnia (finally). Didn’t get to sleep until after 1am, though, because that’s when my Commonwealth games workers got back in. But I did have a bit of a lie in this morning.

All in all, though, I don’t feel great – 5/10, probably – and yes, I do have a headache. So I suppose what I need is painkillers and something to drink – and I have had neurofen and cherry juice, so ticks in both those boxes.

I’m alone in the house now – for what feels like the first time in ages. N is on his way northwards escorting his mum, No1 and No2 sons are off at the Games, and No3 has tidied his bedroom and made the bed for his grandmother, cleaned the bathroom, and has headed off to see friends.

I still need to vacuum through downstairs, and mop the kitchen floor, marinate the meat for teriyaki chicken for tonight’s supper, and chop up the veg. But I have cleaned the kitchen, so that looks lovely, and I feel a little bit of a glow of achievement and virtue – enough of one to allow me some time off and a bit of computer time! <>

I'm in my late forties, mum of three teenage boys, living near Glasgow. I've been a nurse, studied politics and music at university, and now I am a stay-at-home mother. I've suffered from depression for many years (only recently diagnosed), and take antidepressants daily to keep me on a manageable level.
